Hailey Bieber Thanks Selena Gomez for Speaking Out Amid Social Media Drama
Selena Gomez and Hailey Bieber are putting a stop to the drama.
For weeks, the Internet has been spiraling over the stars' alleged feud over Justin Bieber and obsessing over Hailey's supposed attempts to copy or mock Selena over the years. Neither party had publicly addressed the rumors, but this morning, Selena spoke out, defending her ex's wife. And then, Hailey thanked her for it.
"Hailey Bieber reached out to me and let me know that she has been receiving death threats and such hateful negativity," Selena wrote on her Instagram Story.
Fans have been assuming there is a feud between Hailey and Selena since the model got together with Justin in 2018, weeks after his breakup from the Only Murders in the Building star. But last year, the ladies put those claims to rest by happily posing together for photos at the Academy Museum Gala.
Still, rumors of a feud between them reignited this year—all because fans claimed Hailey and friend Kylie Jenner made fun of Selena with a post about their laminated eyebrows. Since, the Rhode founder has lost thousands of followers (and seemingly gotten death threats), while Selena has gained millions.
But Selena has never blamed Hailey for the end of her relationship with the "Peaches" singer and is now openly supporting her, despite her and Justin's continued silence on the matter.
"This isn't what I stand for. No one should have to experience hate or bullying," Selena added in her statement. "I've always advocated for kindness and really want this all to stop. ??"
A few hours later, Hailey jumped in.
"I want to thank Selena for speaking out, as her and I have been discussing the last few weeks how to move past this ongoing narrative between her and I," Hailey wrote on her Instagram Story. "The last few weeks have been very hard for everyone involved and millions of people are seeing so much hate around this which is extremely harmful. While social media is an incredible way to connect and build community, moments like this only create extreme division instead of bringing people together."
She also seemingly addressed the misunderstanding over the laminated eyebrows, saying, "Things can always be taken out of context or construed differently than they were intended. We all need to be more thoughtful about what we post and what we say, including myself."
"In the end," Hailey concluded, "I believe love will always be bigger than hate and negativity, and there is always an opportunity to see each other with more empathy and compassion."
And, fans noted Selena and Hailey are now following each other on Instagram. So that's that.
