See flying demonstration, bird release at Green Chimney's Birds of Prey Day on Sunday
Green Chimneys will once again host its popular Birds of Prey Day on Sunday, June 2 at its Brewster campus, 400 Doansburg Road in Brewster.
The farm and wildlife center, which is a licensed rescue and rehabilitation center, is home to 300 domesticated farm animals and wildlife, including 50 birds of prey. Students who attend Green Chimney School participate in the care, and sometimes rehabilitation, of these animals.
Birds of Prey Day was launched almost 30 years ago as a fundraiser to build an aviary. It has grown into a full-day educational program and celebration of birds of prey and the environment.
Cost of tickets are $6.98 for children between the ages of 3 and 11; $17.35 for adults (ages 12 and older); and $6.98 for those ages 60 and older. There is also a family pass, which includes admission for two adults and two children, at a cost of $38.09.
Free off-site parking is available at Stanley Black and Decker, 2 Powers Lane, Brewster; and also at Mount Ebo Business Park, 16 Mount Ebo Road South, Brewster, with a complementary shuttle service. Parking across from Green Chimney's campus, at the Otter Lot, or in front of the center's gym in the Horse Lot, is available at $20 per car, cash only.
The event begins at 10 a.m. Featured guests include James Eyring, a master falconer, naturalist and the assistant director of Pace University’s Environmental Center; Brian Bradley, also a master falconer and with more than 30 years experience training and flying raptors; as well as guests from the Teatown Lake Reservation, which includes an environmental education center on a 1,000 acre nature preserve in the Lower Hudson Valley; among others.
Scheduled also are free-flying bird demonstrations at 12:45 p.m.; a live animal stage show at 2:30 p.m.; and the 3:30 p.m. release of a rehabilitated bird with the assistance of a Green Chimneys student.
