See the 12 Best Dressed Celebrities at the 2022 Grammys
Oscars red carpet fashion might get the marquee billing, but never forget that it was a Grammys red carpet look that inspired Google image search. Given that Jennifer Lopez’s plunging Versace gown is responsible for one of the biggest tech innovations in modern history, there’s no reason to consider Grammys fashion any less inspiring, any less challenging, or any less ground-breaking than its awards-show peers. Let’s not discount the influence of Mary J. Blige in head-to-toe leopard, Pharrell Williams’s meme-worthy hat, or Beyoncé in sheer white lace—all Grammys looks that stand the test of time.
On April 3, as music’s biggest stars trekked to the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, here’s who wore it best—and why their looks just might have the power to make history (or at least inspire a new Google image search).
This bondage dress is edgy in all the right ways. Perfectly accentuating Dua Lipa’s curves while leaning (all the way) into 2022’s BDSM-inspired fashion trends, the Versace gown is a classic for good reason. Paired with Lipa’s new platinum dye job and a chunky gold high-collar necklace, this is a Grammys look to remember.
Few can pull off Old Hollywood glamour with the grace and consistency of Lady Gaga, who, lest we ever forget, can make literal meat look like couture. This ever-so-simple asymmetrical gown is perfectly styled with a chunky collar necklace and Gaga’s blonde tresses in a pin-curl updo. Sublime.
They get it right every time. The beloved boys of K-pop band BTS know how to dress for their audience: an increasingly adoring group of stans known as ARMY. These Louis Vuitton suits in matching monochrome colors, paired with flower pins, are sure to satisfy even the hungriest fan.
I’ll admit I’m not too sure about that corset and skirt combination, but the overall styling of Halsey’s Grammys ensemble convinced me that she belongs on this list. After all, when’s the last time we saw such an elegant (but eye-catching!) hat on the red carpet? Paired with platform Stuart Weitzman heels, a sultry red lip, contoured cheekbones and the sheen of that velvet corset, this look is razor sharp.
This shimmering gown with ruffled sleeves and hem detailing reminds us of the dress Jessica Chastain wore to the Oscars last week—and no wonder, given that they're both Gucci. By pairing the loud garment with a simple, slick black haircut and minimal jewelry, St. Vincent created an intelligent, not to mention radiant, look.
The cotton candy pink. The gigantic bow. The vinyl texture. All in one look, those elements could make for a disaster, but Tinashe pulls it off with more than aplomb; this gown is downright stunning.
Is it weird? Is it gothic? Does she look like she’s about to reveal two gigantic bat wings from underneath that coat? Absolutely, and that’s why this look from Billie Eilish is one of our favorites of the evening. It’s bizarre but creative, oversized but sleek. Paired with her wild updo and tiny sunglasses, this is a refreshingly clever look for Eilish.
Not only have we seen the long skirt and bra top pairing at the Grammys many times before, but reincarnations of Barbie pink are hardly original. And yet! This combination on Sweetie had us swooning. The perfect cut of the bra top, the long opera gloves, the dazzling diamond choker and matching bracelet... Saweetie’s giving Barbie a run for that dream house.
Ah, the naked dress. It can’t possibly hit every time, but when it hits, it hits. And Paris Hilton’s shimmering silver naked gown was a huge hit; the heiress didn’t even have any Grammy nominations, and she still managed to eat up the red carpet! That’s hot.
Michelle Zauner, better known as Japanese Breakfast, channeled a daffodil in this bubbly, fun, and beautifully textured yellow dress. There was nothing else quite like it at the ceremony, and that’s to Zauner's credit: The look told us everything we need to know about the artist and her attitude, just from one glance?—which is exactly the power of a good dress.
Lil Nas X playing copycat to Kim Kardashian brings it all home. In this all-white suit set, which looks like it was simultaneously quilted and carved, the rapper draws the attention he wants on the red carpet—and we all know he wants (and deserves) it all.
Sure, this look might go down in history for having been accessorized with crutches. But apart from the styling, the exquisite texture of this floral tulle gown stood out amongst a series of otherwise simple gowns.
