Scotland Public Library promoting summer reading
SCOTLAND — The Scotland Public Library will promote summer reading with a special theme.
“Read, Renew, Repeat” will begin this week for children, teens and adults. Registration for the program will be held all days the library is open.
In keeping with the “renewable” theme, on Tuesday when the monthly Building Club meets, participants will build something new out of cardboard boxes. All ages are welcome to the “Built It! Create It” club meeting, held at 4 p.m.
On Friday, the Silent Book Club will meet for its monthly meeting, emphasizing the “read” part of the theme. Club members hold a brief discussion of what they are currently reading and then have the opportunity to read their own books in cozy chairs around the library. The club meets from 5:30 to 7 p.m.
On Saturday, the library will celebrate Smokey the Bear’s 80th Birthday with a party and officially kick off “Read, Renew, Repeat” with a conservation theme. There will be themed stories and refreshments and Smokey the Bear will attend as the guest of honor. The event is made possible through the Scotland Volunteer Fire Department and the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection. The event starts at 10 a.m.
