Scheana Shay Says She Was in a Throuple With John Mayer After His Jennifer Aniston Split
Vanderpump Rules star Scheana Shay says she was in a “throuple” with John Mayer and her roommate, The Hills alum Stacie Adams (a.k.a. Stacie the Bartender) after Mayer's 2009 split from Jennifer Aniston.
Shay spilled the tea during an interview on the Flashbacks podcast on Aug. 19—and she held nothing back. On the podcast, Shay revealed that she met John Mayer in 2008 while working a private party he hosted at the exclusive Grand Havana Room in LA. Their meeting happened prior to his 2009 breakup with Aniston, with Shay saying she got “wasted” with Mayer and Aniston at the bash.
After his breakup with Aniston, Mayer reportedly visited the Grand Havana Room again—and asked for Shay's number. Eventually, Shay introduced him to Adams and the three reportedly entered a unique relationship after about six months.
“It just became kind of the three of us. We had a little 'throuple' going on," Shay says.
The one of the hosts of Flashbacks asked if she meant a “sexual throuple,” and Shay clarified she did. But the reported arrangement wasn’t entirely without snags.
"I definitely got a little jealous towards the end of it because I knew he liked her more," Shay said. "And I was like, 'Wait, I brought you into this and now you're getting more attention than I'm getting. What's up with that?' And then even after him and I stopped talking, they continued talking. Her and I had like a year of just awkward friendship falling out, but then came full circle a year later and have never been closer."
The supposed connection—at least between Shay and Mayer—isn’t an entirely new revelation. Tabloids picked up the story in 2009, leading Shay to reportedly address the media coverage with Mayer. She says she called the star to assure him she hadn’t leaked the story.
"He was like 'No, it's cool, I don't think you would do that. We've been hanging out for six months. You probably would have done it by now,’” Shay said on Flashbacks.
Due to her alleged relationship with Mayer, Shay was eventually fired from the Grand Havana Room. She says a coworker reported her relationship with Mayer to management, and she was let go from her waitressing job as employees were not to “fraternize” with members.
“I was like, 'I'm losing my job over this?' It was the week of my birthday," Shay says on the podcast. "And I'm like, 'I don't think as a cocktail waitress we really get like a severance package.'"
But she did end up with an even bigger pay day due to her firing from Grand Havana Room. Shay ended up getting a new job at the Villa Blanca restaurant—which is owned by Lisa Vanderpump.
“If it wasn't for John Mayer, I wouldn't be on Vanderpump Rules," Shay said.
