Savannah Guthrie and Carson Daly Were Absent From 'Today' Again
You may have noticed that two familiar faces were unexpectedly absent if you tuned into the Today Show this morning, July 19.
Savannah Guthrie was replaced by Sunday Today host Willie Geist, who sat down with Hoda Kotb to co-anchor the first two hours of the morning news show. While details about her absence are slim, Kotb did note at some point, according to Hello!, that Guthrie had "taken the day off," so it sounds like there's nothing to worry about on that front!
Carson Daly also took a step back from today's programming, with Third Hour host Sheinelle Jones hosting Pop Start in his place. It's a busy season for Daly, what with The Voice filming its blind auditions for the 24th season in California, so it's likely not the last you won't see of him in the coming days.
Just a couple of weeks ago, a significant number of anchors and hosts were absent as well. Meteorologist Al Roker was celebrating the birth of his first grandchild, while Kotb appeared to take time off to celebrate the holiday weekend with her daughters, Hope and Haley.
Meanwhile, it was reported that Daly and Guthrie were also just taking “some time off from work,” without any specific reason, likey enjoying their summer days.
On that occasion, Craig Melvin and Kristen Welker took over for Guthrie and Kotb, while Dylan Dreyer filled both Roker and Daly's shoes.
You'll probably also notice Jill's Steals & Deals host Jill Martin's absence in the near future, as just this week she revealed that she had discovered she has breast cancer while preparing to undergo what was supposed to be a preventative surgery.
She's now scheduled to undergo surgery to remove the cancer this week.
