Sarah Sanders mocked for saying God 'wanted Trump to be president'
White House press secretary Sarah Sanders is crediting a higher power for the Trump presidency. As CNN reports, Sanders told the Christian Broadcasting Network (CBN) that she believes God “wanted” Donald Trump to be elected.
“I think God calls all of us to fill different roles at different times, and I think that he wanted Donald Trump to become president, and that’s why he’s there,” a transcript of the interview, set to air Thursday, quotes her as saying.

Sanders went on to defend President Trump — who this week expressed support for Bible literacy classes in school — as invested in Christian causes.
“I think he has done a tremendous job in supporting a lot of the things that people of faith really care about,” she said, adding that it was “ridiculous” for Speaker Nancy Pelosi to accuse his proposed border wall of being “immoral.”
“The idea that protecting the people of your country, which is the fundamental duty of being president of the United States, would in some way be immoral is a ridiculous charge,” Sanders said.
Trump critics were quick to react. Some — including Rep. Ilhan Omar, Fred Guttenberg and actors Bradley Whitford and Chris Meloni— slammed Sanders’s comments.
“Do not use religion to justify this president,” tweeted Guttenberg, whose daughter Jaime died in the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla., last February.

Dear @PressSec Sarah Sanders: I see that you now also speak for God. Here's a tip. If you open your heart and eyes, it appears God is sending lots of signals that @realDonaldTrump should step down, or not run again.
Also, how come your boss committed so many sins? https://t.co/04GgdUPpow

Hey @PressSec…do ya think "God" also wanted #Trump to be a pathologically-lying, sexually-abusive, foul-mouthed, bullying racist serial philanderer who mocks disabled people, attacks the Pope, cages kids, steals an election & betrays his country? https://t.co/YgHDAyifQi

The God I pray to wants @realDonaldTrump to become the 1st president to go to prison.

If "God wanted Trump to be President", wouldn't He have also wanted him to win the popular vote as well?https://t.co/wHZgGY5Fs9

God also missed the Holocaust but wanted to make sure ?@realDonaldTrump? cheated on his wife after she gave birth. https://t.co/hsSfN5TK7I

Hum? Sarah opining on God determining roles. What would that mean for victims of gun violence? What was the role and plan for my daughter? Was it to die? Sarah, do not use religion to justify this President. By the way, would you say same about Obama?https://t.co/olS0QHEPN4

Sanders had at least one person in her corner, however: conservative radio host Erick Erickson.
It's why Christians are obligated to pray even for leaders that they don't like and didn't vote for. The same applied to Barack Obama.
