I started running to lose weight about 15 years ago. When I started I was nearly 300 pounds and today I’m around 170. Being physically fit has allowed me to enjoy so many activities that I avoided before. I have made many great friends through running. My wife and I moved to Seattle three years ago and connecting to other runners gave us a ready-made social network. Running, being healthy and connecting to friends has made my life so much richer. I can’t imagine not being a runner.

To connect with other runners and learn more about training, nutrition and gear.

I was diagnosed with incurable cancer three years ago. Running helps me feel normal and helps to manage the stress that accompanies fighting cancer.

I run first thing in the morning, and my favorite spot for a run is in Boone, North Carolina. My wife and I run the same trail anytime we’re home visiting family. Now my runs are mostly in town in Seattle. I love exploring new parts of the city while running. Sometimes on long run days, I’ll take the bus or water taxi to a new neighborhood and run back home.

I can look out the window of my condo and see the Brooks headquarters building. Supporting local businesses is important to me and they make my favorite shoe, the Brooks Ghost 12!

I’m training for the California International Marathon right now. My overall goal is be as healthy as possible and have fun running!
