The Royals Had Their First Christmas Lunch In Years & We Expected More Excitement, Honestly
The Royal Family hasn't had the best luck when it comes to enjoying their long-standing holiday traditions together, due to Covid. This year, though, they've been met with a holiday miracle because an annual tradition has returned just in time for Christmas.
According to People, following two years of cancellations, King Charles III and Queen Camilla were able to host the family's annual Christmas lunch once again this year. Unlike past lunches, which were held at Buckingham Palace, this year's affair took place at Windsor Castle.
In addition to the King and his wife, the pre-Christmas event was attended by Princess Anne and Prince Edward, along with their significant others and immediate family members. Absent this year were Prince William and Kate Middleton and Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
Hello! Magazine reports that the turkey lunch was "a lavish sit-down Christmas meal." Although the exact dishes served at the meal are unclear, Darren McGrady, a former palace chef, revealed to MyLondon last year what the typical menu looks like for a Christmas event hosted by the royals.
"They're actually boring when it comes to festivities," said McGrady. "They didn't do hams or anything, just traditional turkeys...The turkey is served with mashed and roast potatoes, chestnut or sage and onion stuffing, cranberry sauce and bread sauce. Vegetables include brussels sprouts, carrots and roast parsnips.”
Well, at least the royals' preferred cocktails seem to be a hit.
