Roughrider Days in full swing with exciting events and festivities
Jun. 24—DICKINSON — Roughrider Days are in full swing, offering a variety of events and activities for everyone in Stark County and the surrounding areas. Upcoming highlights include the PRCA Rodeo, Roughrider Days Parade, a performance by Gary LeVox of Rascal Flatts, and the Fourth of July fireworks display.
The Roughrider Days Carnival and the two-day demolition derby took place over the weekend at the Stark County Fairgrounds (SCFG).
This week, from Monday through Thursday, the 4-H Exhibits and Livestock events will occur at the SCFG, with indoor exhibits at the Biesiot Activities Center (BAC). Animal events will be at the SCFG.
Starting Friday, June 28, the PRCA Rodeo runs until Sunday, June 30. Admission is $25 and can be purchased online or at the gate. Tickets for kids ages 6-12 are $10, and kids 5 and under enter for free. The first night kicks off at 7 pm. Saturday and Sunday will feature themed nights: Kids Night and Military Appreciation Day, respectively.
The rodeo limits participation to 45 roughstock contestants, with each timed event allowing only 10 to 12 contestants. Additional timed event contestants will compete in "slacks." Friday night features slacks for breakaway roping and barrel racing after the rodeo performances. Saturday and possibly Sunday will have slacks for all other timed events.
Also on Sunday, Champs Sports Club will host a Corn Hole Tournament and offer $1 hotdogs starting at 1 pm.
The downtown parade is set for Saturday, June 29, at 10 am. The parade route runs from Villard and 13th Ave W, heading east, and ending at Hwy 22/3rd Ave W. This year's theme is "Life is a Highway." Children are encouraged to bring bags for candy.
Following the parade at 11 am, the 26th annual Family Fun Day kicks off at Dickinson State University. The lawn near the King Pavilion will transform into a playground for community kids. There will be games, music, food vendors, and Pippi the face painting and balloon twisting clown. Although grounds admission is free, wristbands are required for access to the giant inflatables.
On July 3, country artist Gary LeVox of Rascal Flatts will perform at the Stark County Fairgrounds, with Montgomery Gentry opening. Tickets are available online and at both Family Fare locations in Dickinson and the Dickinson Chamber of Commerce. General admission tickets cost $65, and VIP tickets are $90. Tickets will also be available at the gate.
No Roughrider Days Fair would be complete without a Fourth of July fireworks display. This year's display starts promptly at 10 pm at the former DSU outdoor arena. Ideal parking spots include the North Softball Field, the BAC parking lot, and along 13th Ave West. Parking is not allowed at the Sanford Sports Complex.
