Who owns Kikos Tacos and Ice Cream?
Owner Angelica Benitez, a 22-year-old mother of a 2-year-old daughter, was born in Palm Beach and lives in Port St. Lucie, but her parents came from Guerrero, Mexico, to build a better future for her and her two siblings. The kids grew up working in their parents' taco truck, which inspired her to open a Mexican restaurant. "Everything we have in the kitchen is handmade by me, my husband and our moms," Benitez said. "We even make our tortillas by hand."
She had been working on a restaurant concept with authentic Mexican food for three years before opening. It also has ice cream and a buffet-style table with new types of homestyle foods served every week. "We focus more on our traditional recipes that aren’t really represented in bigger restaurants — things that are passed down generations from our grandmothers and are not typically found in your regular Mexican restaurant."
