Recipes On Repeat! These Are The Recipes Our Editors Make Again and Again
Stacy K. Allen, Food Stylist: Ali Ramee, Prop Stylist: Josh Hoggle
There are some recipes Southern Living editors return to so often, they're practically committed to memory. For some, it's a classic deviled egg recipe; for others it's their favorite weeknight pasta. Many of our editors' (and we aren't just talking about food editors) favorite Southern Living recipes are prized for just how easy they are, making them a regular part of the dinner rotation.
Other editors appreciate not only how delicious a recipe might be, but how the large batch size makes it the perfect edible gift for giving to friends, family, or neighbors. We polled the office and gathered our editors' top repeat recipes, so that they can become some of your favorites, too.
Cuban Black Bean-and-Yellow Rice Bowls
"This is a recipe we developed based on a weeknight dinner that's in my regular rotation. It's more assembly than cooking but makes a satisfying meal. I cheat and use frozen plantains that I cook in the microwave," says Deputy Editor Lisa Cericola.
Creamy Chicken Enchiladas
Victor Protasio, Food Stylist: Chelsea Zimmer, Prop Stylist: Josh Hoggle
"This is a recipe I got from a friend years ago. People love it, and it's easy to make," says Business Manager Nellah Bailey McGough.
Cheesy Sausage-And-Croissant Casserole
"This breakfast casserole has been my mom’s go-to for years during the holidays or weekends we brought friends home from college, and now I’ve picked it up myself for baby showers and beach trips! It couldn’t be easier to make, and it’s a hit every time," says Digital Editor Mary Shannon Hodes.
Chicken Chili
"This is a go-to recipe for me when I have some rotisserie chicken that needs using up (which is often!). It's full of vegetables, which I love," says Deputy Editor Lisa Cericola.
Slow-Cooker Cranberry-Pear Butter
Victor Protasio; Food Stylist: Torie Cox; Prop Stylist: Heather Chadduck Hillegas
"I started this tradition in 2020 in the height of the pandemic. I made Southern Living's Slow-Cooker Cranberry Pear Butter and left jars of it at all of my neighbors' doors during the holidays. Now I make it every year for my friends, too! I've also made it and dropped it off with my aunts and uncles ahead of Rosh Hashanah!" says Senior Digital Editor Rebecca Baer.
Oatmeal-Caramel Cream Pies
Stacy K. Allen, Food Stylist: Ali Ramee, Prop Stylist: Josh Hoggle
"These cookies are my favorite bake-and-take dessert for football parties in the fall. Thanks for the inspiration, Nick Saban!," says Digital Editor Mary Shannon Hodes.
Ginger-Citrus Pork Roast
Greg Dupree, Food Stylist: Emily Nabors Hall, Prop Stylist: Christine Keely
"I love making this for a Sunday night dinner and then getting to enjoy the leftovers on Monday, when I never feel like cooking. It tastes just as good—maybe even better—the next day," says Senior Home and Features Editor Betsy Cribb Watson.
Cheese-And-Sausage Quiche
"This easy quiche is my go-to recipe for celebratory brunches! I love that it starts with frozen pie crust, but really feels special occasion-worthy when you pull it out of the oven. I usually pair it with something fresh (fruit or a salad!) and a few treats from a local bakery," says Brennan Long, Associate Director of Social Media.
Classic Deviled Eggs
"From Thanksgiving to Easter to the Fourth of July, Classic Deviled Eggs are always my go-to appetizer. I follow this recipe exactly each time, and they always turn out perfectly and receive plenty of compliments. I also love that they can be made ahead and are easy to transport and assemble quickly when I reach my destination if I'm taking them to a party," says Senior Digital Editor Jenna Sims.
Fudgy Coca Cola Cake Frosting
"I love making this frosting to level-up a boxed cake. It is SO rich and delicious, and I always 'accidentally' leave a few spoonfuls in the mixing bowl for a sneaky bite before the party. It really doesn't even need the cake," says Senior Home and Features Editor Betsy Cribb Watson.
éclair Cake
"My sister is the baker in our family, so if I am going to make a dessert it has to be easy. My grandmother always brought an éclair cake to the potlucks at her church, but I never got her written recipe. This Southern Living cake is one delicious substitute and with just six ingredients it's simple enough to whip up alongside my other cooking projects. It's also easy to transport and rarely results in leftovers," says Brennan Long, Associate Director of Social Media.
Slow-Cooker Salsa Chicken
Antonis Achilleos; Food Stylist: Ruth Blackburn
"When I don't have a plan for meal prep, I throw this recipe into my slow cooker on Sunday. I usually always have the ingredients on hand and it's so versatile to can be used in so many ways. I've served it over rice, used it to fill quesadillas, and to top nachos and salads," says Jenna Sims, Senior Digital Editor.
Grove-Worthy Pimiento Cheese Sandwiches
Victor Protasio; Food Stylist: Chelsea Zimmer; Prop Stylist: Christina Dailey
"Full disclosure I made this recipe (x4) for the first time last weekend, but it's going to be made again and again. The pecans and bacon upgrade the classic recipe and make the tea sandwiches a bit more filling! I had a few guests tell me that they didn't like pimiento cheese, but they liked this pimiento cheese. I toasted the pecans and made the bacon in advance to simplify day-of prep, too," says Brennan Long, Associate Director of Social Media.
Weeknight Bolognese
Greg Dupree, Food Stylist: Emily Nabors Hall, Prop Stylist: Christine Keely
"As much as I love slow simmering a bolognese all day, this quicker version is the recipe I repeatedly turn to on busy weeknights to satisfy my pasta cravings," says Alana Al-Hatlani, Associate Food Editor.
