  • A phallic shape appeared over the skies near the Luke Air Force Base in Arizona.

  • The pilots had been in a mock battle with other planes.

  • Officials say the sky penis incident was not intentional.

Small pleasures are what make life worth living: a perfectly cooked hot dog at a barbecue, a funny meme online, and the knowledge that the military just can't stop drawing penises in the sky.

Perhaps the best-known sky penis incident occurred in 2017. In November of that year, a phallic shape appeared over the skies of the Naval Air Station in Whidbey Island, near Seattle, and it was later revealed that the pilot had done it on purpose.

It happened again earlier this week, when two US Air Force F-35s left their own penises in the sky. As Business Insider reports, two pilots were in a "mock air battle" with four other F-35s planes at the Luke Air Force Base in Arizona. After the battle was over, the contrails from the planes looked rather dong-like. But unlike other sky penis incidents, officials from the base are saying that this was a total accident.

In an email to the Air Force Times, Maj. Rebecca Heyse, chief of public affairs for the 56th Fighter Wing at Luke, said that they investigated the incident, and the pilots explained what happened:

"We’ve seen the photos that have been circulating online from Tuesday afternoon. 56th Fighter Wing senior leadership reviewed the training tapes from the flight and confirmed that F-35s conducting standard fighter training maneuvers Tuesday afternoon in the Gladden and Bagdad military operating airspace resulted in the creation of the contrails. There was no nefarious or inappropriate behavior during the training flight."

What a wonderful world we live in.
