Rebecca Minkoff Relies on This Simple Trick to Curtail Stress (Especially During NYFW)
In the world of style, New York Fashion Week is essentially the Olympics. Editors and influencers power walk (in heels, no less) from show to show, designers scramble with last-minute details and models pray that they won’t fall off the runway. But when Rebecca Minkoff notices the stress of NYFW creeping in, she nips it in the bud with a refreshingly simple (and free) trick.
When we spoke with the 38-year-old fashion maven backstage at the preview of her fall/winter 2019 capsule collection, which she debuted in collaboration with Stitch Fix, we were eager for her stress-related life-hacks.
As Minkoff explained, she doesn’t meditate or book a luxurious massage when she’s feeling overwhelmed. Instead, she gets some fresh air.
“I take a walk and I don’t have my phone with me. I look at people, I smile at them, I look at buildings and the sky,” she explained.
Taking a ten-minute screen-free break out in the real world? What a novel idea.
On the subject of tips, Minkoff also shared her favorite hack for getting more use out of last season’s items. “Don’t be afraid to cut it up or take it to an alteration specialist to turn it into something new,” she said. One thing she doesn’t suggest you hold onto? Baggy jeans. “I see some baggy pants situations happening. Like JNCO jeans. And I just don’t want to see that come back!” she lamented. Amen.
Minkoff’s new fall/winter collection signals her first ever foray into size inclusive fashion. This range has the same Rebecca Minkoff aesthetic, but also includes sizes 00 to 24 and XXS to 3X. Did we mention it’s also affordable and varies in price from $138 to $248? The designer integrated a broader selection of sizes into this year’s collection thanks to data that Stitch Fix gathered from real women on fit, length and style.
Now inclusive fashion (and stress-reducing hacks) are more accessible than ever.
