RCHS Class of 2024 celebrates graduation
Jun. 4—RUSHVILLE — For the final time, this year's senior students at Rushville Consolidated High School came together Sunday evening at Hinshaw Field for RCHS's annual graduation ceremony.
A large crowd filled the stands on both sides of the field and many were seated around the field and down each sideline surrounding the graduates. Families and friends watched as the graduates entered from the north end of the field and took their seats for the ceremony.
Eli Bridges was first to take the microphone as he led the Pledge of Allegiance. Jocelyn Cain made the Senior Class welcome statement and introduced Class of 2024 Valedictorian Kate Ripberger.
"Things are about to change and you can never stop it. It is now our job to learn to deal with it," Ripberger said.
Following Salutatorian Gabrielle Pavey's comments, Parker Wicker took to the microphone.
Wicker spoke of living in the moment, even when everything is not perfect. He reminded his fellow student to take their time and enjoy.
"Don't rush through life," Wicker said.
Wicker noted thanks to time spent at RCHS, the graduates have the knowledge and instruments to move forward in life.
"We have been given the tools to succeed. Don't waste it," Wicker said. "Live in the now."
One empty chair was placed near the stage where graduates passed to receive their diplomas. This spot was held for the memory of student Valerie Tindall. Tindall would have been a member of the Class of 2024, but her life was taken from her in 2023.
Those who spoke during the ceremony and fellow students honored Tindall's memory in speech and as they passed the empty chair.
