R.I.P. Embarrassing Screen Names: AOL's Instant Messenger Is Shutting Down

What was your first AOL screen name? Was it straightforward like sarah1991 or something a little *jazzier* like olsenfan4ever828? (Spoiler alert: ours was not the straightforward one.)

No matter what it was—and how much shame you feel for it now—pour one out, because AOL just announced it's shutting down the original instant messenger service AIM on December 15.

And despite the fact that we haven't really thought about AIM since wondering if it was slowing down our Napster downloads Sophomore year of college, it's the end of an era and we're nostalgic, damnit.

Now if only we could get a list of our best away messages...
