The Queen Was Super "Upset" and "Annoyed" About This Scene in 'The Crown'
Apparently Her Majesty The Queen of England is very much NOT here for The Crown's second season, specifically when it comes to its depiction of Prince Charles and Prince Philip's relationship during the young royal's time at Gordonstoun school. (Note: the show makes it seem like Philip basically forced Charles to attend the school despite him being a victim of bullying.)
"The Queen realizes that many who watch The Crown take it as an accurate portrayal of the Royal Family and she cannot change that," a senior courtier tells royal reporter Adam Helliker via The Express. "But I can convey that she was upset by the way Prince Philip is depicted as being a father insensitive to his son’s wellbeing. She was particularly annoyed at a scene in which Philip has no sympathy for a plainly upset Charles while he is flying him home from Scotland. That simply did not happen."
^Iconic family portrait is iconic.
Famed royal biographer and journalist Hugo Vickers also tells Helliker that the show "perverts the truth" and "whole episodes are built around fabrications."
That might be the case, but apparently the Queen and Co. (minus Philip) are said to watch The Crown, and Her Majesty reportedly enjoyed the first season almost as much as the rest of us royal family nerds.
