"How A 'Property Brothers' Episode Changed My Life"
Jenny Reimold's life was changed by a single episode of Property Brothers-and she wasn’t even on screen for a second of it. Her house, and her design work, got quite the spotlight, however.
Jenny's Nashville home, where she lives with her husband Nolan and their seven children, was featured on an episode of the popular HGTV show, presented by Drew and Jonathan as the out-of-reach inspiration house for a young couple looking to buy their first home (you know, before convincing them to go with a fixer-upper). But viewers were so smitten with Jenny's home that it actually wound up opening the doors to a whole new career.
Jenny and Nolan and their family settled into the fan-favorite home when they made the move from Florida to Tennessee in the winter of 2017. They'd found a grand, Greek Revival-style home that had been abandoned for a decade and decided to fix it up. This meant that Jenny got to flex her design muscles while completely reimagining their new home.
When their realtor saw the improvements made to the house, she pitched it as a potential dream house to the Property Brothers production team, whom she’d worked with before. Jenny’s house-and its casual, coastal feel-was exactly what that particular episode’s featured couple was looking for.
The entire process of prepping her house for a professional TV shoot was an intense whirlwind (which you can read all about here). But it's the work Jenny, formerly a stay-at-home mom, has done since the shoot last May that has really gotten her excited-and out of her yoga pants, she jokes.
Armed with a journalism degree and previous PR experience, Jenny created some buzz about her design work being TV-worthy, and the opportunities have followed ever since. She's already landed a few projects for some high-profile Nashville clients, and there are even more to come later this year. One of her coolest projects so far? Working with celebrity trainer Erin Oprea (who counts singers Carrie Underwood and Kelsea Ballerini as regular clients) to transform her garage into a very chic home gym.
Jenny also helped one of Nashville's top hair and makeup artists, Melissa Schleicher, breathe new life into her home. Melissa is Nashville royalty, as Jenny describes her, with a high-profile clientele that includes Loretta Lynn (and Carrie Underwood as well). Her '90s-era home was dark and dated, but Jenny helped brighten it up with lighter paint, new furnishings, and fun light fixtures.
In addition to large-scale design projects for individual clients, Jenny has also been able to share her styling tips and ideas with a fairly large audience through her Instagram and blog, as well as in the regular interior design column she writes for a local Nashville magazine. And because of her social media savvy and approachable, family-friendly style, Jenny was asked to be HomeGoods' style expert last year, a role she'll hold through 2019. As the brand's style expert, she shows folks how to shop and use HomeGoods products in their own spaces. The corporate team even flew down to Nashville to do a large Thanksgiving-themed photoshoot of beautiful tablescapes at Jenny's house recently.
Jenny says partnering with HomeGoods was a natural fit. "My style is budget-friendly and family-functional," she says. "I don’t have anything too expensive in our house, so working with them is a perfect match."
The design work Jenny is happiest to talk about doesn't have any big celebrities or brand names attached to it, though. "The platform that I now have has allowed me to advocate for foster care, and specifically, Bloom Family Designs," she says. The organization supports families by furnishing and decorating the bedrooms of adopted and foster children at no cost to the families.
Jenny works with the founder of Bloom Family Designs to design, shop for, and install the rooms for nominated families. "It makes it easier for people to say yes [to adopting or fostering children] when they know they have a support system," she says.
Adoption and the foster care system are causes near and dear to Jenny's heart. Of all the exciting opportunities that have come from the Property Brothers episode, the ability to volunteer with this organization while bringing attention to it is definitely her favorite.
While interior design was always a hobby for Jenny, it wasn't something she saw as a career path until her episode aired. She's since found her niche of media-infused design projects (something those high-profile clients appreciate), and despite the growing number of opportunities on her plate, it’s still something she can juggle while parenting seven kids. "It’s something I can do when the kids are at school, on my own schedule," she says. "It all just fell into place."
