Proof Ke Huy Quan Is Having the Best Time at the 2023 Oscars
The 'Everything Everywhere All at Once' actor looked right at home on the red carpet.
It's certainly a good time to be Ke Huy Quan.
The Everything Everywhere All at Once actor hit the red carpet for the 2023 Oscars, where he was nominated for Best Supporting Actor for his work in the critically acclaimed film from 2022.
Donned in a Giorgio Armani suit and a flower brooch designed by Fred Leighton, Quan beamed as he walked the red carpet as a first-time nominee.
Quan's journey to the Oscars is unlike many of his fellow nominees, as he first broke into the industry as a child star, acting in roles in 1984's Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom and 1985's The Goonies.
Despite a successful start, Quan revealed that acting opportunities soon fizzled out, noting that there were limited opportunities for Asian performers. "It was tough," he previously told People about walking away from acting in the '00s. "I was waiting for the phone to ring, and it rarely did."
While Quan found success behind the camera—he worked as an assistant director and stunt coordinator—he was reminded of his love of acting in 2018, when Crazy Rich Asians hit theaters.
"I was happy working behind the camera but I had serious FOMO," he recalled. "I wanted to be up there with my fellow Asian actors!"
And so, he returned to acting, booking the first role he auditioned for: Waymond Wang in Everything Everywhere All at Once.
Now Quan is an award season pro, nabbing two Screen Actors Guild awards, one Golden Globe trophy and one Critics' Choice award.
Heading into the 95th Academy Awards, Quan was a frontrunner, nominated alongside The Banshees of Inisherin's Brendan Gleeson, Causeway's Brian Tyree Henry, The Fabelmans' Judd Hirsch, and The Banshees of Inisherin's Barry Keoghan.
