Looking ahead to summer and what will your teenager or pre-teen be doing? Perhaps you have an 18- to 24-year-old that needs summer employment as well. Pocono Services for Families and Children located at PA Career Link in Monroe County has great opportunities that will not only enhance your child’s abilities but allow them to explore career opportunities with a broad range of programs.
For those looking for summer employment between the ages of 18 to 24, there is a Summer Youth Employment Program. This program will allow the participants to use and improve their leadership skills while they continue to build their resumes. Taking on responsible leadership roles will enhance the individual’s skills and make them a more desirable employment candidate. Applications for these positions can be found at www.PSFC.ORG/YES. Phone: 570-620-2850, ext. 304 or 305.
Perhaps you or your child are in a quandary about finding a job for summer. Then here may be the answer. The program is currently accepting applications for those between the ages of 14 and 17 as part of their Summer Youth Employment program as well. These jobs will allow your child(ren) to not only gain work experience, but help them develop good work ethics, manage responsibilities, and begin to build their resumes. This is paid work experience for all positions. (Positions offered are primarily in Monroe County.) Applications are available at www.PSFC.ORG/YES. Phone: 570-620-2850, ext. 304 or 305.
Perhaps your child would like to have an opportunity to “see what’s out there” on a broader basis. In that case, mark Saturday, May 18, on your calendar for those ages 14 to 18. The 11th Annual Youth Job Fair will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Northampton Community College, Pocono Campus in Pocono Hall Room 108. This will give your child the opportunity to experience a potentially broad range of opportunities as well as the chance to develop their conversation and interviewing skills. Should your young person wish to hone their interview, resume, leadership skills or learn about attending college or a trade school (ages 12 to 18), ask about Project Success and when it is being offered.
Any exposure and opportunity to see what a career may offer is vital to a young person’s career path and development. So, another program and opportunity being offered for those between the ages of 14 and 15 is also available. Noted by the program name, Summer Skill Training, it will give a young person the opportunity to learn a specialized skill and gain work experience at the same time. This program runs from June 24 through Aug. 2. For more information and an application, visit www.PSFC.ORG. Phone: 570-620-2850, ext. 304.
Should you have a child that is inquisitive and wants to learn new skills over the summer months, there is an opportunity to do so at the Summer Education Camp, which is held at The Mountain Center, located at 354 Memorial Blvd., Tobyhanna. The “Camp” runs from June 24 through Aug. 2 as well and is geared for those ages 12 to 15. There is a cost of $250 to participate; however, the learning opportunities are varied, and scholarships are available. There is the opportunity to learn to create a website, health education classes, broadcasting and gardening to mention a few. For more information or to apply visit www.PSFC.ORG/YES. Phone: 570-620-2850, ext. 305.
