Princess Charlotte Will Go by a Slightly Different Name at School
Princess Charlotte will be known as Charlotte Cambridge at elementary school, People reported.
She starts elementary school tomorrow, joining her older brother, Prince George, at Thomas's Battersea in London.
Similarly, Prince George is known as George Cambridge to his classmates.
Princess Charlotte is headed to elementary school tomorrow, but her classmates won't be calling her by royal titles. Instead, she'll actually have a―gasp!―last name, just like the rest of her peers.
According to People, the four-year-old will go by Charlotte Cambridge at school, a truncated version of her official moniker, Her Royal Highness Princess Charlotte of Cambridge. Her friends will simply call her by her first name.
The fourth in line for the throne will be joining her older brother, six-year-old Prince George, at Thomas's Battersea, a private prep school in London. George also uses Cambridge as his last name in class, per Insider. (His friends, however, have reportedly given him the very cool nickname "P.G.")
Technically, the last name for members of the royal family is Mountbatten-Windsor, which is a combination of Prince Philip and Queen Elizabeth II's surnames. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's son, Archie, uses this last name, as he was not given a royal title.
Using part of a parent's title as a last name appears to be a common practice for royals. Prince William and Prince Harry both used "Wales" as their last name in school because their father, Prince Charles, is the Prince of Wales, according to People.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are expected to join Prince George and Princess Charlotte for their first day of school together tomorrow. Be on the lookout for adorable family photos.
