Prince Harry Says Mom Princess Diana “Would Be Sad” About His Rift with William
Prince Harry does not hold back when opening up about his fractured relationship with brother Prince William in his memoir, Spare, and in a new interview, the royal suggests how mother Princess Diana would feel about the entire situation.
The Duke of Sussex sits down for a talk with Good Morning America—to be released in full Monday—ahead of the release of his autobiography.
In a teaser from the interview, GMA coanchor Michael Strahan asks Harry what the late Princess Diana might think of him and William's highly publicized rift and current estrangement.
"I think she would be sad," Harry says.
"I think she'd be looking at it long term to know that there are certain things that we need to go through to be able to heal the relationship," he then adds, echoing comments he's made that he hopes his royal family is able to sit down with him to talk through their problems.
Though Harry has spoken much about the reasons he and William have grown apart—in his memoir, in interviews, and in his Netflix docuseries, Harry & Meghan—he has also voiced his wish to get his family back.
"I would like to get my father back. I would like to have my brother back," he says in a trailer for an interview with ITV's Tom Bradby, adding, "They've shown absolutely no willingness to reconcile."

Despite Harry's thoughts that Diana would be saddened by his estrangement from William, he also tells GMA, "I've felt the presence of my mum more so in the last two years than I have in the last 30."
In his memoir, he writes extensively about coping with her death and seeing her in everything he does. And in his Netflix doc, he compares wife Duchess Meghan's "compassion," "empathy," and "confidence" to that of his late mother.
Spare will be released on January 10.
