Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Share a Memory From Their Wedding in Their First Podcast
This time last year, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were on the precipice of walking away from royal life, facing an uncertain future. Now, the couple is settled into their new lives, and marking the end of 2020 by launching the first episode of their new Spotify podcast.
The Duke an Duchess of Sussex released a "Holiday Special" episode, produced by their company Archewell Audio, in which they share personal anecdotes and stories from guests including Sir Elton John, Tyler Perry, and James Corden. The couple opens the podcast by saying they want to honor the “compassion and kindness” that has helped people get through this year, they also thank healthcare and frontline workers. “As we come to the end of this year and look to the future... let's hold onto the lessons we’ve learned about how important it is to take care of one another, and how meaningful our connections are… even when they’re physically impossible,” Harry said.
The duo chose to end the broadcast by sharing the song that was played at their Windsor Castle wedding in 2018, "This Little Light of Mine." Harry described it as “a song that means so much to us,” and Meghan added, “It was the music that we wanted playing when we started our lives together. Because as we all know, 'darkness cannot drive out darkness, only light can do that.'" Harry concluded, “The message of this song is one we hold so dearly. It’s about using the power we each have within us to make this world a better place.”
This special podcast episode is a part of the multi-year partnership with Spotify that Harry and Meghan struck earlier this month, which will see them produce a series of podcasts under production company Archewell Audio. “The Duke and Duchess will host and produce podcasts that build community through shared experience, narratives and values,” a statement about the partnership said. The move followed the announcement earlier this year that the couple had signed a multi-year deal with Netflix to create programs including documentaries, films, and children’s shows. They have denied suggestions that they will be taking part in reality shows, but have not ruled out appearing onscreen.
