Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Deny Rumors They’re “Competing” With Queen Elizabeth’s Honors List
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are getting ready to launch their new nonprofit org Archewell, named after their son, Archie.
This week, UK tabloid reports alleged that Archewell would include “woke honors” meant to “rival” Queen Elizabeth’s honors, but Archewell’s press secretary told Cosmopolitan that’s totally false.
Today in Ye Olde Royal Controversy News comes a truly wild rumor courtesy of the UK tabloids, which reported over the weekend that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle plan to launch their own “woke honors” awards to “rival” Queen Elizabeth’s honors. (The Queen’s honors reward individuals in the UK with knighthoods, CBEs, OBEs, and MBEs.)
The rumor is just that though—a rumor. Archewell’s press secretary clarified the situation on Monday, so let’s debunk some falsehoods, shall we?
Press secretary for Archewell Toya Holness said in a statement to Cosmopolitan that there’s zero intention for Archewell’s work to rival the UK honors list, so check out the clarification for yourself:
“We look forward to sharing more about Archewell’s work in the weeks ahead, but any suggestion that it is intended to rival the UK honors list is false. Furthermore, the trademark application has followed the normal course of business for the U.S. trademark process and any suggestion otherwise is also false.”
That “trademark” bit puts to rest additional rumors about Harry and Meghan’s trademark applications being rejected, which circulated back in March.
Glad that’s all settled! Now we can get back to other important royal matters…like wondering whether Meghan and Harry will release a cute Sussex family Christmas card this year.
