Prince George's Official 5th Birthday Portrait Is Here and It's Too Cute
Just when you thought you were about to have a mundane Saturday evening, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge go and release an adorable new portrait of Prince George.
The official birthday photo, which was shared on Kensington Palace's Instagram account, features Kate and William's oldest child — a.k.a. the future King of England — standing in front of a brick wall with the world's biggest smile on his face. (Hey, you'd be smiling that big too if tomorrow was your fifth birthday!)
There are two particularly interesting things to note about the adorable portrait:
Prince George is wearing the same outfit he wore to his little brother's christening earlier this month.
The photo was taken by photographer Matt Porteous, who also photographed the royal christening.
So we can pretty much assume the photo was taken on July 9, the day of Prince Louis's christening, which totally makes sense considering little George was all dressed up and ready to go.
Another interesting tidbit to note: Prince George's birthday photos are always quite different than his sister's in one specific way, and this time around is no different. It appears George always has a professional photographer take his portraits, while his mom, the Duchess of Cambridge, normally picks up a camera and captures Princess Charlotte's herself.
Last year, Kate and Will hired photographer Chris Jackson to capture George's portrait.
And the year before that was Porteous.
His second birthday photo was taken by Mario Testino (and was shot at Charlotte's christening).
Meanwhile, Kate has photographed all of Charlotte's official portraits:
The photographer situation could have to do with the fact that George is the future king, or maybe, it's just all about timing and convenience. Either way, we're wishing George the happiest of birthdays!
