Pride, brides and other fun things to do this weekend in the Jacksonville area
We're about to enter the slow season for organized things to do in Florida. The Jacksonville Symphony plays its last shows of the season this weekend and local theater groups are getting ready to take a break for a few months. But that doesn't mean there's nothing to do — head out for some hilarious comedians, catch a staged reading, party at a Pride Parade or plan ahead for your wedding day.
Laughs
If you're looking for a few laughs, there are several options this weekend in the Jacksonville area. Ali Siddiq, who discovered his comic talents while serving a prison term, is at the Florida Theatre at 7 p.m. Friday ($30-$125); Bruce Bruce, who has been cracking people up for decades, is at the Comedy Zone at 7:15 and 9:45 p.m. Friday, 7 and 9:30 p.m. Saturday and 7 p.m. Sunday ($35-$45); and "liberal redneck" Trae Crowder is at Cafe Eleven in St. Augustine at 7 and 9:45 p.m. Friday ($40-$60).
‘Symphonie Fantastique’
Another season is in the books once the Jacksonville Symphony completes a pair of performances of Hector Berlioz’s stirring work, "Symphonie Fantastique." Showtime is 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday at Jacoby Symphony Hall. $31-$84.

‘Twilight: Los Angeles, 1992’
The 1992 riots in Los Angeles were a trying time, and Anna Deavere Smith's account of the event using the words of the people who were there is enlightening. Jacksonville's 5 & Dime theater troupe will hold staged readings of the piece at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday at Bab's Lab, 603 King St. $12.
Fernandina Beach Pride Parade and Festival
Celebrate LGBTQ Pride Month at the 4th annual Pride Parade and Festival, which runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Central Park in Fernandina Beach. They'll have live music, food trucks, kids' activities and an afterparty at the Palace Saloon. Info: fernandinabeachpride.com
Premier Bride Expo
June is the heart of wedding season, even for those planning ahead. More than a hundred vendors, representing venues, photographers, bakers, florists, DJs, bridal shops, caterers and dance instructors will be on hand to help plan your big day. The Bride Expo runs from 1-4 p.m. Sunday at the Prime Osborn Convention Center. $12-$40.
