Popular Beach Closes After Surfers Found Lurking in Shark's Home

Australia's sharks were on fire over the holidays.

On Christmas Eve, a shark attacked a windsurfer in Western Australia and tore into his ankle. Then on Christmas Day, another one chomped a 16-year-old's thigh while he was surfing with two friends.

But yesterday, lifeguards found surfers lurking around innocent sharks minding their own business in their home. According to reports, they followed the proper safety precautions and closed the beach until the humans were removed.

The Manly Observer, an Australian hyperlocal news service, broke the news yesterday in the post above and captioned it:

"HUMANS CONFIRMED LURKING IN SHARK PLAYGROUND

"A siren has sounded at Manly Beach this morning, presumably to warn the local sharks that there are swimmers and surfers - potentially in the hundreds- lurking in the shallows at Manly Beach.

"Lifeguards are removing the humans as we write. (But seriously get out of the water til the lifeguards give the okay- their concern is your safety.)"

In a related post, the Observer reported:

"Lifeguards at Manly Beach have confirmed a shark sighting at 11:14 am, requesting everyone get out of the water."

According to all sources, the sharks were reported safe and unharmed.

One follower looked on the bright side and commented:

"We're so lucky to live where we have a healthy ocean with sharks keeping the ecosystem in balance. And for those that don't know - sharks are always in the ocean, whether they're spotted on the day or not. The risk of getting bitten by a shark is 1 in 11.5 million."
