Police officer praises bus driver who drove daughter's volleyball team home: 'As a parent, I say thank you'
Police are known for frequently calling people out on their dangerous driving. It is, after all, part of their job. But one police officer took a different route on Thursday when she heaped praise on a school bus driver for doing everything correctly.
An Illinois state police officer, who calls herself Mama Bear, took to Facebook to thank a school bus driver who was transporting her daughter and her volleyball team home from an away game on Wednesday night. The post has more than 12,000 positive reactions and has now been shared 1,700 times.
“I’m guessing you didn’t know it was an off-duty State Trooper following you all the way back to the school from the away game last night,” the post began. “It was a long drive with a load full of volleyball players. What you probably don’t realize is how much I paid attention to your driving. Maybe more so since my baby was riding in your bus.”
She continued: “Your speed never went over the speed limit. Your tires never drifted out of the lane. Your blinker always worked. Your hazard lights went on and your door opened as you stopped at the rural train track crossing.”
The officer shared that she commented several times to her other children in her car about how heartening it was to see such a safe driver and asked one of her children to take a photo. She learned that the driver’s name was Randy, and promises that she will be reaching out to the school with a letter of appreciation.
“As a police officer, I say thank you. As a fellow driver, I say thank you. And most importantly, as a parent, I say thank you,” she wrote.
