If your days are long, grueling and mostly spent on your feet, supportive shoes are a must. So we asked foot surgeon Diane Koshimune of Kaiser Permanante Medical Group in San Jose, California to give us her take on the best shoes for all-day wear.
Shoes with solid soles (versus flexible ones that bend easily) offer the most support, she says. “Flexible shoes allow for increased motion, so there’s more wear and tear on your joints,” she says.
Clog-style shoes are great, but there are more options to consider. Ahead, seven podiatrist-recommended picks to give your feet the love they deserve.
Dansko Professional
Dansko shoes are incredibly supportive, which is why Koshimune wears them during long hours of surgery. “They’re structured,” she says, adding that the clog’s raised heel supports calf muscles, too.

Hoka One One
If you prefer a tennis-shoe style, Koshimune highly recommends Hoka One Ones. “They’re really light and have a lot of cushion,” she says.

Crocs Neria Pro II Graphic Clog
The ever-popular rubber Crocs are a nice choice. “They’re wide and extremely lightweight,” says Koshimune, who suggests adding an arch support for extra stability if you feel like your feet are shifting too much.

Merrell Work Encore Slide Q2 Pro
These leather slip-ons are a great option for office attire, as they’re comfy without being too cutesy. Plus, they’re slip resistant and lightweight.

Super Birki by Birkenstock
Shoes with a natural curvature like this one won’t impact your foot’s natural motion, says Koshimune. It features a removable cork-latex contoured footbed.
Shop it: Super Birki by Birkenstock, $80, zappos.com
Clarks Everlay Heidi
Known for their impressive arch support, Clarks shoes are comfortable while being dressy enough for an office.
Shop it: Clarks Everlay Heidi, $57 (was $90), zappos.com
Adidas Running Ultraboosts
Tennis shoes aren’t at the top of Koshimune’s list, but some people prefer lighter, more flexible footwear. Adidas’ Ultraboosts have a curve at the bottom similar to clogs—a sign that they’ll keep your foot’s natural shape intact.
