‘Get Pitted’ Surfer Undergoing Surgery on ‘Severely Broken’ Leg, Seeks Funding
Everyone knows the ‘get pitted’ guy. However, just in case you don’t, he’s the Huntington Beach surfer who went viral in 2002 for a Fox 11 on-air interview where he exuberantly described getting pitted (so pitted) and smacking the lip in hilariously heightened stereotypical surfer-bro style. His name is Micah Peasley.
Though it’s been over two decades since the original clip of Peasley took the internet by storm, he’s left an indelible mark on the surfing world. His legacy lives on every time someone describes a particularly critical snap with a hearty “wapah,” (which actually happens pretty frequently).
However, according to a GoFundMe being organized by his mother, Denise Peasley, Micah’s in a bit of a tough spot at the moment.
“If you are looking for Micah the ‘surferdude’ on the sands of Huntington Beach, Calif., you won’t find him there, but rather laid up in a bed at USC hospital trauma center with a severely broken, smashed up leg from a fluke snowboard accident,” reads the description. An update posted today elaborated that Pearson suffered “multiple fractures in his knee and leg,” for which he will be undergoing surgery on Wednesday, April 17. The fundraising goal is $10,000, of which $2,200 had been raised as of this writing.
“So many people from all walks of life, millions in fact, have enjoyed Micah’s viral video,” added his mother. “Let’s show him some love to help pay for his medical and living expenses for the next few months so he can once again say those iconic words, ‘Aw brah it’s just like, you just get the best barrels ever dude. You come in and get spit right out, just drop in and smack the lip, ‘wah-bah.’ Just drop back in like ‘bah!'”
