Piers Morgan slammed for calling Michelle Obama 'bitchy' toward Melania Trump
Piers Morgan is at it again. After picking fights with Ariana Grande and plus-size model Tess Holliday, the British TV host is taking aim at another high-profile woman: former first lady Michelle Obama.
This week Morgan devoted an entire column for Britain’s Daily Mail to scolding Obama for “plunging the bitchy knife firmly into the back of her successor as first lady, Melania Trump.”
Morgan claims the Becoming author “let me down” by making a “cheap, tacky” crack about leaving the White House for the last time on President Trump’s inauguration day. During an appearance on The Tonight Show on Tuesday, the former FLOTUS told Jimmy Fallon that her thoughts on the day were: “Bye, Felicia!” — a reference to the chilly sendoff made famous in the 1995 film Friday.
Morgan, who befriended Trump when he won Celebrity Apprentice in 2008, saw the remarks as being at the expense of the new first lady.
“Michelle Obama likes to pride herself as being street-wise and down with the kids, so will have known all this when she said it,” he responded. “She is a very smart woman too, so she will have also known that ‘Felicia’ is a very similar phonetic name to ‘Melania,’ so it would be very obvious to whom she was referring.”
Obama also joked about feeling awkward when Melania Trump presented her with a Tiffany’s gift box.
“Melania Trump must have winced with anger and humiliation,” he wrote.
Though he insists that he considers Obama to be “a delightful person — warm, friendly and highly personable,” Morgan’s column accuses her of “bitchy sniping” at Melania Trump and straying away from her famous “when they go low, we go high” mantra.
“How sad to now see the same Michelle Obama, a woman I greatly admire, now herself go so low simply to belittle her successor, flog a few more books and further line her already bulging pockets,” he added.
The criticism has fired up supporters of the former first lady, some of whom claim that Morgan’s grievances are racially motivated, noting his recent attack on another woman of color, Meghan Markle. Many also insist that she wasn’t ridiculing the new FLOTUS.
We know Piers Morgan he likes to drawing attention himself by saying controversial stuff but calling former First Lady Michelle Obama “bitchy” meaning the b word and that “she likes to pride in herself being streetwise” and “being down with the kids”. pic.twitter.com/tXZfq3cRe2

@piersmorgan the article pitting Michelle O against Melania was in bad taste & incredibly biased. You have no idea who/what she was referring to when she said Bye Felicia. She appeared to be referring to the White House. You are stirring up hatred& being divisive like your boss.

Piers Morgan is a dang fool! Michelle Obama was clearly talking about the whole White House experience, and not making a personal dig at Melania Trump. But when people are starved for relevancy they'll make all kinds of bogus commentary just to get… https://t.co/e0JqypAFhd
