Pickerington chamber will ask public's help in solving murder mystery at city hall July 27
PICKERINGTON ? Someone will be murdered sometime between 4 and 8 p.m. on July 27 at city hall. It will be up to the public to find the culprit.
That is the premise of a unique event the Pickerington Area Chamber of Commerce is hosting that evening.
"This is kind of my brain child," chamber president/CEO Kim Barlag said. "I've been thinking about this kind of event since I applied for the job at the chamber. I wanted to do it and finally had the opportunity to make it happen this summer."
She wrote the mystery around the chamber members and sponsors that are participating. The event is also open to the public as people can enter teams of four or less. Teams will then visit stations throughout downtown that night to gather clues to solve the murder.
Ohio University's forensic chemistry department members will be at the crime scene to help with fingerprint analysis, chemical analysis, shoe print impressions, forensic accounting, forensic linguistics and more. The Pickerington police task force vehicle will also be there.
Also on hand will be eight suspects. Or could there be more than eight?
“Just as in any mystery, the police identify suspects or ‘persons of interest’ along the way," Barlag said. "And while they most often get things right, there’s always a chance for the culprit to be someone unexpected. More than likely though, it’s one of these eight shady characters identified to be acquainted with the criminal fraternity."
The winning team of sleuths will each get a trophy, a $25 gift card to Ruby Joy Boutique, a $20 gift certificate to Humble Crate Artisan Marketplace, and a 3XP Bike & Kayak Tour at Buckeye Lake for four.
The team with the best costume will each win a trophy and $25 gift cards to Ruby Joy Boutique.
The entry fee is $60 for teams up to four, but teams can add teammates for an additional $15 per person. Register by July 18 to receive a swag bag and detective kits. Entrants after that are not guaranteed. the bag and kit.
