Phoebe Philo Is Back
Very few designers have had a lasting impact on modern fashion quite like Phoebe Philo, or have amassed such a cult following. Her iconic Céline era between 2008 and 2018, in particular, gave birth to a minimalist aesthetic that's still widely coveted (as documented by fashion fangirl accounts like @oldceline). Now, after a three-year break from the industry, the former creative director is back to business, only this time with a label of her very own.
The British designer, who has been quietly working on her highly anticipated return since the beginning of last year, is now set to officially debut her eponymous brand with a little help from luxury conglomerate LVMH, a minority investor for the line. Philo was under the LVMH umbrella when she sat at the helm of Céline, one of its 70 brands. Its chairman and chief executive officer, Bernard Arnault called the creative one of the most talented designers of our time. “We have known her and appreciated her for a long time. Phoebe contributed to the success of the group through her magnificent creations over several years,” he said.
Though she has yet to divulge much more about what fans can expect from Phoebe Philo the brand, there will be an eco-friendly component as a sign of the times, and it will include both clothing and accessories rooted in quality and design, according to WWD. “Being in my studio and making once again has been both exciting and incredibly fulfilling,” Philo explained about her new venture. "I am very much looking forward to being back in touch with my audience and people everywhere. To be independent, to govern and experiment on my own terms is hugely significant to me." More details are rumored to be revealed in January 2022—until then, it's safe to say that we'll all be waiting with bated breath.
