People Are Really Upset About the DWTS Finale
Spoiler alert: Olympic figure skater Adam Rippon and his pro partner Jenna Johnson won Dancing With the Stars: Athletes last night, capping off a string of high-scoring performances that cemented their status as season-long frontrunners.
The duo nailed their jazz routine to “Anything You Can Do” from Annie Get Your Gun, earning a set of perfect scores from all three judges and a standing ovation. Their self-described "quirky" freestyle to DJ Kass’ “Scooby Doo Pa Pa” left the panel a little confused, but a solid 28/30 still put the pair at the top of the scoreboard.
While Rippon's victory over fellow celeb competitors Josh Norman and Tonya Harding didn't come as a surprise, fans couldn't help but voice their disappointment with a lackluster special season that didn't include the ballroom dancing show's usual glitz and glam.
Many viewers hated the shortened schedule, which chopped the usual 10-week season down to a mere four episodes:
We could have waited until September. Y'all did not have to rush this season like this like it wasn't important. We barely got to see Adam celebrate his win. There were no guest performers. We didn't even get to know who came in 2nd and 3rd place. Never do the 4 weeks again #DWTS

Adam and Jenna are such a precious partnership. We were robbed by only having four weeks of them 😭 #DWTS

Please, ABC, never again do a four week Dancing with the Stars season. Full season or nothing. #dwts

Worst dancing with the stars ever!
Too rushed. Do it right or dont bother!!- CHERYL WI (@cheryl888888) May 22, 2018
ABC had planned on the truncated competition all along, but shrinking down the usual two-hour finale to just one came as another sting. The final episode ran into the American Idol finale directly afterwards, but DWTS fans wanted more time to vote, plus extra details about Rippon's Mirrorball win rather than Maddie Poppe's victory.
Only an hour finale squeezed in before an extended American Idol episode. This whole season of #dwts has been a fail programming wise, ABC.

Shout out to ABC for not only cutting DWTS to 4 weeks but then cutting the finale to only an hour. Way to shoot yourself in the foot #DWTS

Others hated on the fact the show didn't name who took second place, instead declaring Harding and Farber runner-ups as well as Josh Norman and Sharna Burgess. A source close to the DWTS production later told ET that the "tie" actually stemmed from the fact that the show ran out of time.
Overall not a fan of this short season and I don’t like how they didn’t announce 2nd/3rd place. Happy that Adam and Jenna won though

Didn’t have time to announce second and third place because they couldn’t run into the season finale of American Idol. ABC hate to break it to you, but DWTS should hold seniority over American Idol. Especially with your network. Just saying. There was enough time to announce that

How do we know who came in second and third???? #DWTSAthletes #DWTS

Even more people were upset that pro dancer Burgess was robbed yet again of a trophy despite a whopping 10 seasons on the show and a number of close finishes.
sharna burgess WILL win season 27 of dancing with the stars pic.twitter.com/ud2iPiit1e

So how many more seasons we gotta watch in order to see Sharna finally win ?? 🙃

So I read somewhere someone saying how @SharnaBurgess is the Leonardo DiCaprio of #DWTS and it is so true ! I’m not taking anything away from anyone but damn that girl is legit the best there is ! You’ll get that trophee one day Sharna!#teamSharna

Sharna keeps getting robbed and it’s starting to irk me. I’m happy for Adam. But if I’m going to be Candid. I can do without Jenna!!

While it's impossible to please everyone, DWTS viewers will be relieved to learn that the show will return in the fall with the usual episodes on Monday nights, but fans can catch even more dancing action on Sundays with the new spin-off Dancing with the Stars: Junior.
