Patches Are the New Charms For Handbags
Back in 2010, Prada essentially broke the mold by introducing leather charms in the shape of robots to adorn its pricey handbags. Over the years of the evolution of these addictive little accouterments have gone on to include Fendi’s fur Buggies (the most famous being the Karlito), colorblocked tassels, feathers, crystals, the works.
For 2016, designers seemed to adopt a different type of adornment — patches! Look no further for Gucci’s Dionysus Bag with glittery lips and purple lightening bolts, Marc Jacobs Lady bag with relics of all things Americana including the Coke wave and red, white, and blue popsicles. Brit “it bag” designer Anya Hindmarch took the idea one step further by slapping sticker-like emojis all over her satchels. (Fortunately you can purchase the stickers separately here.)
If you are not in the market for a shiny new handbag, don’t fret. You can always rework one of the ones that you already have. Just go to your local fabric shop or Army-Navy store, pick up a few patches and start sewing away. Personalizing your bags are not only fun but is also an easy way to let the world know what you’re made of.
