Parade and car show put fair off to a running start
Jun. 24—ELNORA — A rescheduled parade and a brand new car show have the 75th anniversary edition of the Daviess County Fair off to a good start.
"Sunday, we had our first car show and it was better than anyone expected," said Daviess County Fair Secretary-Treasurer Charlotte Bell. "We had 51 cars entered and we gave out five awards and everybody seemed to really like it. Hopefully, we can get it to grow and improve next year."
Other opening day events included an animal show called Silly Safaris and the parade.
"The parade turned out really good," said Bell. "This opening weekend was a real success and we were all thrilled with the way it turned out and we have a week full of cool stuff yet to come."
Monday was a day off for the fair. There are a number of events to come. The forecast though calls for some rain this week that could put a chink in the plans.
"We want to remind people that if there are any weather related changes that we need to pass along, we will post it on our Facebook page," said Bell. "Whenever there is a question we get bombarded with messages and it is difficult to respond to all of those so we are posting the information on the Facebook page as soon as possible so people have access to that information."
The page can be found at https://www.facebook.com/daviesscountyfairinc/.
Events for the rest of the week include the queen contest on tonight, pedal tractor pull (all ages welcome) Wednesday evening, the dog agility show and karaoke contest of Thursday night, Midwest Junkyard Racing on Friday and the grand finale on Saturday will be the annual demolition derby.
James Gang Amusements will have the midway operating Tuesday through Saturday.
"We are really excited that we will have a few new things going on this week," said Bell. "This being our 75th anniversary we will have special t-shirts available to commemorate that."
Bell says she wants to invite everyone to Elnora this week.
"We'll see you at the fair," she said.
