Oprah Winfrey says she has 'literally' hiked her butt off to fit into her old clothes: 'I've been able to shop my own closet'
Oprah Winfrey is breaking out some old gems from her closet thanks to her consistent hikes.
In a TikTok posted Tuesday by Joseph Zambrano, who works for Oprah Daily, Winfrey shared that she has been "hiking my butt off, literally" and says the exercise has allowed her to fit into clothes she previously couldn't wear.
"I have all these things in my closet that I was like, OK, when I lose ten pounds, well, it really wasn't ten. I needed to lose more than ten, so now I, you know, I've been able to shop my own closet," she said.
Her bestie Gayle King, ever the supportive friend, can be heard in the background saying, "Joseph, look at her legs."
This is not the first time the television host has shared her love for hiking.
In September, the Oprah Daily Instagram account shared a video of the media mogul with her hiking poles in hand. In it, Winfrey spoke highly about her favorite summer activity.
"One of the things that's been the joys of summers for me is actually this uniform: a white T-shirt, my leggings that I've actually worn a hole in, walking this summer… I've been hiking practically every day," she said.
She also added that hiking and life have quite a lot in common.
"I've been hiking every day. Literally hiking my butt off is what ended up happening," she said. "And here's one of the things I learned. It's a great metaphor for life, this hiking, it's that when you have the steepest hill on the mountain, you don't look at the mountain or what's ahead. You just concentrate on one foot in front of the other. One foot in front of the other. And when you really want to make yourself feel good about where you're going, look at how far you've come and not how far you have to go," she said.
This is all made remarkable considering she had two knee surgeries in 2021.
After a trying recovery, Winfrey experienced a newfound appreciation for her body and the simple joys of movement she may have taken for granted in the past.
"I had double knee surgery last year," she shared during a Zoom for her The Life You Want class, which was focused on gratitude. "I had knee surgery in August, and then I had another knee surgery in November. When I came home the first time, I literally could not lift my leg. I couldn't lift my heel off of the bed, and I vowed if I was ever able to get up, walk around, and move again — that I would take advantage of movement, exercise, and of being able to be fully in my body.
"As I was rehabilitating, I started hiking," she continued. "Every day, I tried to hike more and do more. My appreciation for every organ and every limb has expanded exponentially."
