‘One Piece Odyssey’ Trailer Previews an Immersive, Combat-Driven RPG
Bandai Namco has released an 11-minute walkthrough trailer for One Piece Odyssey. Slated to arrive on January 12 in Japan and January 13 everywhere else, the role-playing game enables the player to take turns controlling Monkey D. Luffy and the Straw Hat Pirates in combat as well as the open-world.
One of the leading elements of the title is its unique combat system. Developers share how players will, sometimes randomly, switch between characters on the battlefield. A “Scramble Area Battlefield” system gives players multiple options to make the most tactical choice while in battle, allowing different characters to tap into the special abilities of the Straw Hat Pirates.
Each character offers their own edge within the open-world that will be used to advance the storyline. They can also find surprise bonus items unique to their character. Sanji, for instance, can source ingredients for cooking, while Nami is able to find dropped money. Luffy can utilize his Gum-Gum powers to obtain items from far out-of-reach places and Zoro can open iron treasure chests to access the goods inside.
Developers say that One Piece Odyssey differs from traditional RPGs in that any item can be equipped on any character. Players can build the skills of their favorite characters, using the field with any which one.
Watch the trailer for the forthcoming game above. One Piece Odyssey will be available for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC via Steam.
In other gaming news, Sony’s Dualsense Edge controller will have a shorter operating time between charges.
