Production on the Bachelor franchise has been postponed due to coronavirus, and you might be wondering if Clare Crawley and Matt James’ seasons of The Bachelorette and The Bachelor are ever even going to happen. Answer: THEY ARE. In fact, ABC has a whole plan of action that they just laid out.

Speaking to Ryan Seacrest, ABC’s vice president of alternative programming Rob Mills explained that Clare’s season of The Bachelorette will go into production first and start shooting in about a month. And yep, everyone is going to be quarantined together.

“Here’s what were going to do: For Clare’s season, which is going to come first, that’s going to shoot in about a month,” Rob said. “Everybody is going to be at one location. Everybody is going to be tested a week before. Everybody comes back negative, we shoot, and they’re inside that bubble.”

The show won’t be filmed at Bachelor Mansion but will instead take place at a resort.

“They won’t be at the Bachelor mansion. They’ll be at some sort of resort and we’ve scouted several of them and all of them have been scouted for good date locations. We had incredible travel planned for Clare’s season. We were going to Italy—all these places that were going to be great—but there will be plenty of different date locations that will feel hopefully as close to The Bachelorette as possible.”

After Clare’s season finishes filming, Matt’s season will immediately go into production—ideally in September. And depending on what’s going on with coronavirus, Matt and his contestants could end up doing some domestic traveling—and may even film at Bachelor Mansion.

“We’re hoping to start on time which will be the end of September and we’ll see where the world is,” Rob said. “Hopefully that’s when we would be at The Bachelor mansion. Maybe there’s some travel. Maybe it’s just domestic. Maybe it’s by bus, but we’ll see. If not, if things aren’t that safe, we’ll shoot it the same way [as Clare’s] where everybody is safe. They’re tested, they’re quarantined, and then you can have kissing, arguing, and everything else.”

As The Bachelor and The Bachelorette go into production, the franchise has promised to make “significant changes” to address its lack of diversity. In a statement posted to Instagram on the heels of Matt being announced as the show’s first Black Bachelor, executive producers pledged to “expand diversity in our cast, in our staff, and most importantly, in the relationships we show on television.”

Producers are currently re-casting Clare’s contestants, while Rob says a record-setting 65,000 people have applied to be on Matt’s season.
