You Can Now Buy Former First Lady Jackie Kennedy's D.C. Home
Kennedy's former Georgetown home, originally built in 1794, just hit the market.
One of the homes previously owned by former first lady Jackie Kennedy is officially on the market, listed for $26.5 million.
The home is located in the neighborhood of Georgetown in Washington, D.C., and is listed by Sotheby's International Realty. According to the listing, the home in its current state has 13 bedrooms, 13 bathrooms, and 5 partial baths, and in total, it's 15,364 sq. ft.
Kennedy lived in the Georgetown home for about a year following the assassination of her husband, President John F. Kennedy. The house was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1976.
Since Kennedy owned the home, it has expanded and changed quite a bit, combining with two other townhouses to become the grand estate it is now.
The listing describes the Georgetown home: "While retaining its historic elegance, the estate has been meticulously transformed to a modern showplace embracing the highest quality design, fixtures, and finishes. No detail was overlooked in the impressive renovation of this historic residence."
Included in the amenities are a grand Italianate entertaining room, a spa-quality bathroom in the primary suite, a gourmet kitchen, three-car garage parking, and more.
Along with Kennedy, the historic home has been owned by Georgetown mayor Thomas Beall, Secretary of War Newton D. Baker, and more recently, former Miss America Yolande Fox.
In 2020, another one of Kennedy's former homes went up for sale. The house was the late former first lady's childhood summer home in East Hampton, New York.
The house, at 4,291 sq. ft. with six bedrooms, was listed for $7.5 million by Sotheby's International Realty, per People. While not as grand as Kennedy's former Georgetown home is now, the New York home, which was built in 1895, has an "extraordinary legacy of art and glamour," as the listing stated.
Kennedy's family was known to host friends often at the summer house, with many polo matches taking place in a nearby field.
