Nonpartisan Uno deck is free of red, blue cards in hopes of keeping the holidays politics-free
Mattel is offering a solution to one of the trickier aspects of navigating a family holiday gathering – avoiding any political talk altogether – thanks to its new, limited-edition Nonpartisan Uno deck.
The card deck looks a lot like the classic Uno game that players ages seven and up have come to love throughout the years; however, red and blue cards have been removed entirely. Instead, the colors that have come to be associated with the Republican and Democrat parties, respectively, have been replaced with orange and purple instead.
“Without Red or Blue cards the focus can stay on the game,” the Mattel Games website reads.
Also new to the deck is the VETO card, which features the word "politics" with a no entry sign through it. If a player should begin to enter a political discussion, playing the card can result in that person losing his or her turn.
The limited-edition Uno deck, sold at Walmart, appears to have already sold out. Mattel did not immediately respond to Yahoo Lifestyle’s request for comment.
