Nike Reveals Kyrie Irving’s New Signature Shoe — and the First Four Colorways Will Release ‘Mystery Box Style’
The latest Nike signature shoe for NBA star Kyrie Irving has arrived.
Irving’s new sneaker is the Nike Kyrie 7, a court-ready model designed with quickness and cutting in mind. To get the desired results, the Swoosh employed several of its top-performing technologies.
The new techs and innovations include a data-informed traction pattern for grip during “shifty, unpredictable perimeter play” and flexible yet supportive composite mesh uppers. Also, rather than utilize a strap that has adorned past Nike Kyrie looks, this sneaker features TPU “fingers” on both sides that go down to the strobel, which were added to offer security and an improved fit.
Although much is different about the Kyrie 7 compared to the baller’s past acclaimed signature shoes, there are several elements familiar to the sneaker franchise that appear on the Kyrie 7. For instance, they’re equipped with articulated Air Zoom Turbo units in the forefoot for responsiveness and court feel, elements synonymous with Irving such as the names of his mother and daughter, and a chassis that is carried over from the Kyrie 6.
Nike will launch the Kyrie 7 in four limited-edition “Preheat” colorways “mystery box style” inspired by sport, art, film and music. These looks will arrive via the SNKRS app on Nov. 11. According to Nike, buyers won’t know which of the four colorways they have unlocked until a pair has been secured and then unboxed.
The “Preheat” styles include “Special FX,” which is an homage to Irving’s love for filmmaking. Nike said it is inspired by film techniques and has nods to select iconic movies. The “Soundwave” look is inspired by his love for music and “how the vibrations influence his game.” The third iteration is “Expressions,” which according to Nike, draws inspiration from the baller’s love for art and the freedom of artistic expression. And the final of the collection, “Icons of Sport,” is a nod to Irving’s list of “hoop influencers.”
Retail price for the “Preheat” sneakers is set at $140.
Following the “Preheat” looks is the Kyrie 7 “Sisterhood,” which was created “to empower female athletes everywhere.” This style drops on Nov. 14 and will retail for $130. After that is “BK Black,” which celebrates his Brooklyn home court. It arrives on Nov. 16 for Nike Members and Nov. 23 elsewhere. The sneaker will also retail for $130.
