Nickelodeon Released the Original "Avatar: The Last Airbender" Pilot and Things Were Totally Different
Just when you thought you knew everything about Avatar: The Last Airbender, Nickelodeon is opening the vault and revealing all the behind the scenes secrets on the show.
In a special that is now available to stream on Twitch, Nickelodeon is giving fans a special sneak peek and they even included the unaired pilot that fans have been curious about for years.
About 43 minutes into the special video, fans can check out what originally was supposed to be the first episode of the series. Although it looks like some things have been kept the same, there were some major changes from it to the original first episode that aired.
Some differences include Katara's first name, which was originally Kya. The name was later used in The Legend of Korra for Katara and Aang's daughter. Towards the end of the pilot, Aang saves her and Katara looks absolutely scared, kind of pointing that she was a lot less confident in the pilot. Aang's personality has also changed as he often hits on Katara and is a lot more reckless.
Some of the bending looks a bit different as well, particularly firebending. The pilot also starts off with them already on their adventure, after they found Aang, instead of when they originally saw him in the iceberg. Iroh is not involved at all and Aang's voice actor is also completely different.
Along with the original pilot, the hour and 15 minute long special also includes behind the scenes moments with the animation studios JM Animation, DR Movie, and MOI Animation, who worked on the series. Fans who watched the show when it was on air will also recognize Sifu Kisu, who was the show's martial arts expert, who used to appear on commercial breaks to break down the different bending techniques.
Of course, series creators Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko also make an appearance breaking down the show's finale. Several mini specials are shown throughout, with the characters shown in adorable chibi style.
So whether you're a new fan or have been loving the show for years, you definitely don't want to miss this.
