I Was Never a Fan of Hot Sauce but TRUFF’s New Jalape?o Lime Version Has Me Obsessed
I have a confession to make: Despite growing up surrounded by Tex-Mex and scarfing down tacos, burritos, and fajitas on the regular, I’ve never been one to add hot sauce to my dishes. In fact, up until recently, I leaned away from most things that had even a hint of spice. (I know: What kind of a Texan am I?)
However, slowly but surely, the tide has been turning. I wouldn’t consider myself a pro at handling spice. I’m still pretty averse to foods and sauces that would make me sweat à la Hot Ones, but my new go-to snack is jalape?o chips, and I’ve introduced a few spicy Thai dishes into my rotation. While I’ve been building up my tolerance, I realized how much I’ve been missing out on — like Truff. The popular, celeb-loved luxury condiment brand has been around for years, but I’m finally hopping on the bandwagon after trying out their brand new offering: Jalape?o Lime Hot Sauce. It’s so good that I can confidently say that — at long last — I’m finally a hot sauce fan.
What Is the Truff Jalape?o Lime Hot Sauce?
Truff — as you might’ve already guessed — has made a name for themselves by putting truffle-infused twists on classic staples like pasta sauce (which is Kitchn-approved), oil (we love this one, too), mayo, and hot sauce. In fact, one of our editors called their classic version “sweet, smoky, truffle-y perfection,” and tons of shoppers appear to agree, since it’s garnered hundreds of five-star reviews over the years. Oprah Winfrey even added it to her Favorite Things list, sharing that it’s “one of the most-used condiments in [her] house.”
In the case of the newest addition to the Truff collection, this gluten-free, 6-ounce sauce offers a unique blend that’s totally different from anything they’ve released before — aside from their trademark hint of black winter truffle, of course. The green jalape?o peppers and lime offer a new flavor profile that’s refreshing and punchy, without being too overwhelming. The brand says that it’s meant to compliment breakfast burritos, tacos, grilled meats and veggies, and more.
“We dove deep into Latin cuisine, indulging in endless tacos, ceviches, aguachiles and chilaquiles. We noticed that two ingredients — green jalape?o and lime — were commonly used to complement and enhance dishes,” Truff co-founder Nick Guillen said. “We pursued these bold flavors and the result is a sauce that is both elevated and celebratory in nature.”
Why I Love the Truff Jalape?o Lime Hot Sauce
This hot sauce has totally inspired me. Since adding it to my pantry, I’ve incorporated it into a number of dishes, including my mom’s chili (she’s now also a fan), turkey tacos, avocado toast, and egg-and-bacon breakfast tacos. Even using just a small amount at times, it paired perfectly with all of them, giving new life to my otherwise boring, go-to meals. Plus, it’s even great on its own! More than once, I dumped the sauce in a bowl and dipped some tortilla chips into it.
At first, I was a little unsure when I heard that truffle was involved — usually, I find it to be a little too intense — but I was happy to find that the flavor was just the right amount of subtle. And though the kick is certainly there with the jalape?os, I haven’t found myself guzzling water after every bite like I’d initially expected. All in all, it’s a mind-bogglingly easy way to step up any kind of meal, and needless to say, Truff has turned me into a hot sauce convert. Do yourself a favor and buy into the hype!
