One of Netflix’s best hidden features is the ability to play a huge selection of very good games on mobile, with some big hitters in there like Spiritfarer, Terra Nil, and the exclusive Reigns: Three Kingdoms. With time, this library has grown to be even bigger and better, and pretty soon, we’re going to have to expand our best Netflix games list, because one of the best indie games of all time is headed to the service.
Netflix has announced two new games being added to its games library this month, just in time for the spooky season. The first is a special Netflix version of Slayaway Camp, subtitled Netflix & Kill, which is a surprisingly cute little puzzle game where you have to move a murderer around on an isometric board to most efficiently kill camp counselors.
Slayaway Camp first released on PC and mobile devices in 2017, where it was met with rave reviews. It was subsequently released on consoles like the Nintendo Switch as a Butcher’s Cut, and received fantastic reviews there, too. It currently has an almost perfect rating on Steam, the Google Play Store, and the iOS store — and probably would on consoles if those had rating systems too.
The other game being added is one that I’m personally excited for, and you should be too: Dead Cells. This one is subtitled “Netflix Edition,” though Netflix hasn’t elaborated on what exactly that means yet. The key art for the game includes artwork for all of the DLC though, including the utterly excellent Return to Castlevania DLC, so the fact that it’ll be included at no extra cost for Netflix subscribers is absolutely bonkers.
Dead Cells is a metroidvania roguelike game where you play a headless warrior on an infinite loop exploring a corrupted island. The game features permadeath, so when you die, you have to start all over — but you will bring over some money and skills you earned in the process. Even if you don’t think metroidvanias or roguelikes are for you, you owe it to yourself to play Dead Cells. It’s one of the best games I’ve ever played.
Netflix hasn’t provided us with release dates for either of these games, but given the company says it’s bringing these games in celebration of Halloween, we imagine they’ll probably be here by the end of the month.
