In celebration of the national day observing the popular deep-fried potato side, we asked our readers on social media where to find the best local french fries in the Stevens Point area.

Local restaurants
When it comes to your favorite french fries, Stevens Point Journal readers said they find them at a lot of local spots.
The Big Garlic, 1157 Main St.
Jessica Weaver-Scott said her favorite french fries are at The Big Garlic. The restaurant offers truffle fries, garlic aioli fries, chili cheese fries, nacho fries and loaded fries.
Brian & Wendy’s Hiawatha, 817 Main St. in Junction City
Brenda Schmidt said she likes the loaded fries with pulled pork, cheese and barbecue sauce at Brian & Wendy’s Hiawatha in Junction City. She called the fries there the “best thing in the world!”
Guu’s On Main, 1140 Main St.
Allison Birr said she likes the french fries at Guu’s On Main. She likes the crunchy outer layer with a fluffy inside, and she likes the batter and seasonings on them, as well.
Jordan Bar and Grill, 5696 State 66
Chris Fuller said he likes Jordan Bar and Grill’s french fries. He said they are homestyle fries with a perfect texture. They’re crispy on the outside and warm and soft inside.
The Sandbar on the Wisconsin River
Dawn Laugelli said The Sandbar has the best french fries. She said they are fresh cut, and they’re the perfect thin size, making them crispy when fried. The Sandbar sprinkles the fries with a secret seasoning and serves them with homemade ranch.
“No one else has fries like these,” she wrote. “I wait all winter for the boat to reopen to get my fix.”
Stone Press Food Truck
Jill Trudeau said the rosemary fries at Stone Press Food Truck are "sooo good!" She said the thin-cut french fries have the right amount of everything, including rosemary seasoning. They also are served as a perfect portion size so you can still enjoy a panini sandwich from the food truck with them.
Two Lakes Supper Club, 9915 Two Lakes Road in Almond
Linda Petig said she likes the fries at Two Lakes Supper Club in Almond.
Regional and national chains
Several regional and national chains were among the list of restaurants that Stevens Point Journal readers said served the best french fries.
A&W
Robin Siegler Werth said she likes A&W fries because they’re crispy and not greasy. She said they’re salted just right. You can find nearby A&W locations in Colby, Neillsville and Spencer.
Arby’s
Deb Dunn said she likes the crinkle-cut and salty fries at Arby's. They have a crunchy exterior that are warm and soft on the inside, she said. Arby's has locations in Plover and Stevens Point.
Checkers
Several people said they like Checkers french fries, and many said they like the seasoning the restaurant adds.
Steve Wasmundt said Checkers has the best french fries “hands down.” Ashley Engel called the seasoning on the Checkers french fries addicting, and Matt Lorfeld said he likes Checkers french fries because of the seasoning and texture.
The nearest Checkers location is in Wisconsin Rapids at 1840 Eighth St. S.
Chip’s Hamburgers
A few people shared they like the french fries at Chip's Hamburgers. Jeanine Breu said she likes Chip's fries because they are always hot and crispy and never soggy, and they remind her of her mom's homemade fries.
Chip's restaurants are located in Marshfield and Wisconsin Rapids.
Culver’s
Culver's was one of the most popular choices for french fries. Many said they like the thicker crinkle cut.
Sarah Smith said she loves Culver’s french fries, especially the crinkle-cut style. Culver’s gets their fries crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside, and Smith said she can never seem to get them right at home.
Jennifer Rose said she likes Culver’s fries because they are crispy. She said they’re amazing paired with the Culver’s cheese sauce.
Michael Capelle said Culver’s is his favorite french fries for the crinkle cut, taste and overall presentation.

Five Guys
Tod Planer and Stacy Taylor said they like Five Guys french fries. The nearest Five Guys location is 226425 Rib Mountain Drive in Rib Mountain.
McDonald’s
Pat Stashek said she likes McDonald’s fries because they are thin-cut and crunchy. There are McDonald's locations in Plover and Stevens Point.
Monk’s Bar & Grill
Jessica Reiman said the truffle fries at Monk’s Bar & Grill are so good. She likes the parmesan cheese and lemon aioli they come with. Monk's is located at 1400 Commerce Place in Plover.
Red Robin Gourmet Burgers and Brews
Rosemary Roe said she likes Red Robin’s unlimited fries. The closest Red Robin restaurant is located at 225548 Rib Mountain Drive in Rib Mountain.
Wendy’s
William Bowen said he likes Wendy’s fries. Wendy's is located at 1215 Commons Circle in Plover.
