Nathan Florence's Surf Trip to Cape Town Makes it Look Amazing
From what we've seen, Nathan Florence had an epic barrel-filled summer.
He's been all over the world on Slab Tour. From getting stitches in Sumatra, slabs in Australia, and Skeleton Bay marathons, Nathan's been living the dream.
He keeps it going in his latest vlog where we get to see a behind-the-scenes, and between the barrels look at a Cape Town adventure with his wife, Mahina.
The nearly half-hour vlog that dropped Friday is part surf vid, part "Planet Earth."
"So we got to Cape Town and the first week was kind of like this a big storm with a lot of swell with it. It also had unfortunately a ton of storm weather and it was freezing cold," Nathan says at the start of the video.
He continues:
"We searched for waves but we didn't find much. We did find a little slab one day and had some fun."
So what else did the Florences do? They hiked, saw a lotta wildlife, barbecued, and saw old friends.
One of those friends was Frank Soloman, a South African big wave surfer and founder of Sentinel Ocean Alliance (SOA).
According to its website, SOA's purpose is to create ocean-based opportunities and provide environmental education for the youth of South Africa’s coastal communities.
Soloman says he wanted to create a place that offers youth the same ocean-based opportunities he had as a child.
"You can teach them there's not only opportunity in the water but it's a place you can go to escape whatever's at home," Nathan says.
The vlog offers an inside look at SOA.
Looking back on it, Nathan says:
"We couldn't have asked for a better trip."
