Nate Florence Brings Us Inside the Barrel During a Raw and Unruly Day at Shipsterns Bluff
The POV GoPro angle from inside the barrel at big Shipsterns simply does not do the wave justice. The opening clip, which follows Florence on his first ever tow wave at Shippies, looks like a fun overhead tube from the wide angle view.
Until you see the boat angle.
What appeared to be a head high barrel, was actually a 10-foot mutant slab, with steps and chandeliers and a lip that would snap you in two. Of course Florence threads it perfectly, and kicks out with a nonchalant hoot and a "that was fun."
Fun for Florence is a relative term.
What's rad about this edit is that Florence splices his POV with the boat angle wave for wave, giving you a true sense for what it looks and feels like (as much as one can feel anything from behind a screen) to ride a wave at Tasmania's next level slab. And it's not just Florence that impresses in this edit. His tow partner, Kipp Caddy, expertly navigates a couple of mean double steps, airing over each and straight into a casual soul arch.
Like all of Florence's content, it's impressive stuff. Somehow he manages to one up his own edits week after week, flying anywhere and everywhere that's necessary to make it happen.
Every week it's like: what's next for Florence?
We won't have to wait long to find out.
