Myth or Fact: Does ice cream actually cool you off?
LEWISBURG, WV (WVNS) – In the summertime, many people think of ice cream as the primary treat to cool them down.
However, medical experts say ice cream actually has the exact opposite effect.
According to Mount Saint Vincent University, ice cream’s ingredients actually raise your body heat instead of cooling you down. The milk and fat that make up ice cream create this effect.
What is blue moon ice cream supposed to taste like? It depends
Amy Mills, owner of Amy’s Market, told 59News how making the stop for ice cream can still help you cool off.
“It helps when you have an air-conditioned restaurant, it’s very refreshing,” said Mills.
Even though ice cream may not offer the relief that many originally thought it did, it is essential to find other ways to take breaks from the heat.
Stopping in to a nice air-conditioned restaurant or public library can help you to get a break from the hot conditions.
Plus, ice cream can give you the energy you need to be more productive after consumption through the sugar and other ingredients.
