How Much Does Princess Eugenie's Wedding Dress Cost?
Planning a wedding, no matter the size, typically begins with budget planning. How many guests can you afford to host in your venue? What's the cost per head for catering? And typically, your gown is "supposed to" account for ten percent of your overall budget.
We're secretly hoping that's a convention fashion brides choose to ignore, particularly when we're on the lookout for a royal wedding dress.
Which brings us to Princess Eugenie–who is planning the royal wedding she "deserves" with a guest list nearing 1000 guests. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle reportedly invited around 600 guests, with a list ranging from VIP's to royals to members of the public. Eugenie and Jack have reportedly planned to rearrange seating in the two-part interior of St. George's Chapel to accommodate their much larger guest count, which likely means a larger reception post-wedding–and a larger tab.
That tab, per usual, includes the dress. Eugenie has been known to surprise with her fashion choices, and royal weddings demand a grand entrance that only a custom or couture gown can provide. Business Insider quotes Meghan Markle's custom Givenchy gown by British designer Clare Waight Keller at approximately $135,000, and the Duchess of Cambridge's at approximately $434,000 gown. Meghan's wedding gown, according to royal protocol, couldn't come close to the price of Kate's out of respect to her position in line to the throne, and Eugenie's dress cost will likely follow suit.
Eugenie's gown could stand to fall somewhere in between the cost of Kate and Meghans' wedding gowns, marking it at $135,000 at minimum. Given Eugenie's place in the royal family, and the connection she's established in London's fashion scene, it's likely that her gown is being designed especially for her, and that fabrics were sourced from wherever necessary, much like the silk cady Claire Waight Keller spoke about sourcing for Meghan's wedding gown. Given Eugenie's ambitious fashion choices, it's also highly likely her gown will be far from the minimal style Meghan opted for, and any lace and embroidery she opts for would only increase the total cost of the gown.
Per Elle, Eugenie feels that she deserves a "big royal wedding with all the frills," and "her moment in the spotlight." If past royal weddings are any indication, that limelight includes a spectacular gown–which comes with a jaw-dropping price tag.
